Schwartzel leads SA charges as 2 golfers make Masters cut

Only two of the four South African golfers in this week's 86th Masters at Augusta National have made the cut for the weekend.

They were headlined by 2011 Masters champion Charl Schwartzel, who fired rounds of 72 and a brilliant 69 to sit at 3-under - five shots adrift of halfway leader and world number one Scottie Scheffler.

The only other South African to make the cut was Christiaan Bezuidenhout, who lies T16 on even-par after Friday's second round of one-under 71.

Missing the cut is Erik van Rooyen (8-over) and Masters debutant Garrick Higgo (11-over), who missed the four-over cut mark.

2010 Open Championship winner Louis Oosthuizen withdrew from this year's Masters prior to the second round after sustaining an injury.

Oosthuizen, who was paired with 15-time Major champion Tiger Woods, carded a four-over in his opening round but could not continue for the rest of the week.

Meanwhile, Woods made his 22nd consecutive weekend cut at Augusta National after the five-time Masters champion lies T19 at one-over par.

Schwartzel will get his third round on Saturday in the featured group alongside Scheffler at 20:50 SA time.

While Bezuidenhout will tee alongside 2017 PGA Championship winner Justin Thomas at 19:40 SA time.
