Schar dominant, Willock lively - Newcastle United half-time ratings at Spurs

Newcastle went in at the break with their Premier League clash with Spurs level at 1-1. The Magpies started brightly, with Allan Saint-Maximin winning a free-kick on the left, although Matt Targett's cross was easily defended.

Tottenham then took a grip on the game to dominate possession, although long-range efforts from Harry Kane and Eric Dier were all they had to show for their efforts. Joe Willock then did well to create a chance, but his effort was well blocked by Cristian Romero.

Eddie Howe's side grew into the match as the half wore on, and took the lead on 38 minutes through Fabian Schar. The Swiss defender fired in a free-kick which Hugo Lloris perhaps should have done better with, but the 3000 away supporters were sent into raptures.

The lead didn't last too long however, as Spurs levelled minutes later. Son's corner wasn't cleared and Ben Davies headed home the second cross to make it 1-1.

Here's how Lee Ryder has rated the Newcastle United players so far.

Had held his own for much of the first half before Ben Davies had too much space to flick home the equaliser.

Has battled well and offered a presence moving forward.

Wha a hit! And what a half, had left Spurs flustered for most of the opening half with some well-timed challenges.

A towering display with half a dozen clearances.

Will be disappointed to not to block Davies.

Another who needs to be careful after picking up a caution. Commitment can't be questioned.

Tried to pick holes in Spurs defence. Has done OK so far.

Looking lively and won free-kick that led to goal.

Trying to get the balance right between defensive duties and applying pressure. Has done well so far.

Has caused Spurs a few problems. Needs to be careful after picking up booking.

Always
