Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez: David Haye explains why he is the best boxer in the world

Former heavyweight boxing champion David Haye believes Canelo Alvarez is currently the best boxer in the world.

Within the context of combat sports, there are very few figures that receive the kind of attention Canelo Alvarez does. The Mexican sensation is easily one of the biggest draws in boxing and at the age of just 31, he’s already been able to string together an insane 57-1-2 record.

From weight class moves to unifying titles and beyond, Canelo has been as active as anyone at the elite level with his 3-0 run in 2021 serving as undeniable proof of that.

The continued success he’s been enjoying fuels the fire of ‘greatest of all time’ discussions but as a result of his defeat to Floyd Mayweather in 2013, it’s unlikely he’ll ever be able to have sole ownership of such a title.

In the current generation, though, he’s up there with the very best, and that much is obvious.

David Haye, who is set to feature as a pundit for BT Sport at Tyson Fury vs Dillian Whyte this weekend, offered up some thoughts on Alvarez’s legacy during an exclusive chat with GiveMeSport.com.

“Canelo, for me, is quite a bit in front because he’s gone through the weight categories comfortably and just gotten better and better with each fight. He’s really tuned into not only winning, but winning against guys who on paper, you wonder if he’s bitten off more than he can chew.
