Sergio Perez will start tomorrow's Saudi Arabian Grand Prix from pole position after pipping the Ferrari duo of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz at the end of a hugely eventful qualifying session on the streets of Jeddah. The Red Bull man produced a stunning final lap to clinch his first career pole after Lewis Hamilton was sensationally knocked out in Q1 and Mick Schumacher was involved in a sickening high-speed crash at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit.

The young German lost control at Turn 12 and smacked into the barriers at around 170mph before he was lifted out of the wreckage and taken to the on-site medical centre in the back of an ambulance. It remains to be seen whether he will be deemed fit enough to take part in tomorrow's race after reaching Q2 for the second time in as many weeks.
