Sarah Lavin storms into European final in Turkey

Sarah Lavin is into the final of the 60m hurdles at the European Indoor Athletics Championship in Turkey.

The Limerick woman came home third in her semi final this morning in a time of 7.99 behind Finland's Reetta Hurske (7.85) and France's Laeticia Bapte (7.91).

It was the sixth fastest time overall, between the two semis, and will see her back on the track at 5:55pm racing for a medal.

"My start left a lot to be desired but I held my form," she told RTÉ Sport afterwards.

"I knew I'd be strong coming off the last hurdle, but we've to fix that [the start] by tonight."

Asked if she knew she had qualified as soon as she had finished, she added: "I had a feeling I'd dipped the French girl but I wasn't so sure.

"I'd a feeling but you want to see the big board. Tonight's session is literally the business end of the whole competition. I just so badly wanted to be there because I should be there.

"Championship racing, everything has to happen 100% right in the lead up, on the days and during the days, so I'm so happy to have a ticket to tonight."

It'll be a third major final for Lavin in the last year after reaching the final of the 100m hurdles at the European Athletics Championships in Munich last August, as well as the final of the 60m hurdles at the World Indoors in March of last year.

It will mean a busy afternoon for team Ireland with Darragh McElhinney in 3000m final action at 5pm, while the women's relay team go in the 4x400m final at 4.25pm.
