Sarah Lavin into World Indoor semis after brilliant PB

Sarah Lavin is into the semi-finals of the 60m hurdles at the World Indoor Championships after setting a new PB in her heat on Saturday.

The Limerick woman clocked 8.03 to take third and progress in Belgrade. She will be back on the track at 5.30pm this evening.

"It's a proud day for me, my coach, my family, my friends, everyone who has helped me get here," she told RTÉ Sport.

"To run a PB on the biggest stage... it's a bit of an ask to do it at 9am after being up so early, but I’m obviously thrilled and I’ll move on to this afternoon now. I'll sleep and eat."

Síofra Cléirigh-Buttner was frank in her post-race assessment after she finished fifth in her 800m heat [2:06:99], which was not enough to see her progress.

"Not only is it not good enough, but it's just not good at all," she said afterwards. "It's been a pretty sub-par indoor season for me. No excuses, you always want to come to the champs and be at your fittest and sharpest.

"It just wasn't good at all today."

In the men's 60m, Israel Olatunde took fourth in 6.66, the 19-year-old just missing out on making it through.

Luke McCann [seventh in heat 1, 3:44:07] and Andrew Coscoran [fifth in heat 4, 3.40.53] also failed to advance in the 1500m.
