Sanwo-Olu hails Nigerian-born Ojomo on Super Bowl victory

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has congratulated Morotoluwa Ojomo, a Nigerian-born American football player, over his Super Bowl 59 victory with Philadephia Eagles.

On Monday, the Eagles defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 victory at Super Bowl 59 in New Orleans. The Super Bowl is the grand championship final of the National Football League (NFL) in the U.S.

Philadephia Eagles’ victory halted their opponents’ bid for a historic third consecutive NFL title. Ojomo, born in Lagos, featured in the game as the Eagles won their second-ever Super Bowl.

In a tweet on X, Sanwo-Olu said Ojomo has made Lagos and Nigeria proud globally. He added that the NFL player’s achievements prove that “Lagosians’ potential is limitless”.

“Your journey from Lagos to the NFL exemplifies resilience, determination, and unmatched talent. You’ve made Lagos and Nigeria proud on the global stage. As you continue to shine on and off the field, know that Lagos stands proudly with you. Your achievements inspire countless others, proving that Lagosians’ potential is limitless. Here’s to even greater victories ahead.”

Ojomo was born in Lagos in 2001, and his family moved to California when he was seven.

In 2023, the defensive tackle was drafted into the NFL as the 11th pick. He joined the Philadelphia Eagles.

With the Super Bowl victory, Ojomo joins C.J. Uzomah, Chukwuebuka Godrick, Chris Oladokun, and Charles Omenihu as Nigerian-born athletes with NFL titles.
