Sam Allardyce reveals Sir Alex Ferguson chats and sends Erik ten Hag a Manchester United message

Former England manager Sam Allardyce has discussed the pressure Erik ten Hag will be under as a manager after Manchester United's woeful start to the season.

It has been a disastrous start for United this season as the Reds lost their second Premier League match in a row with a 4-0 defeat at Brentford. All four goals came in the first half as Ten Hag's side appeared to wilt under the pressure, with sloppy mistakes allowing their hosts to build an almost inconceivable lead at half-time.

There is no doubt that the squad needs some serious reinforcements added to it before the transfer window closes in just over two weeks' time. However, the standard of performance from the players on the pitch was at a level that even the most pessimistic United fan would not have been expecting.

The result now leaves Ten Hag's side with zero points from their first two matches, and things don't appear to be getting any easier as their next fixture sees bitter rivals Liverpool arrive at Old Trafford. Much of the scrutiny over the recent performances has been directed at the club's hierarchy, as well as the players themselves.

It would be unfair to criticise the Dutchman after such little time in charge, yet it is now commonplace for managers to be the first in the firing line after poor performances. Fans will be hoping that Ten Hag will be afforded the time and resources needed to implement his tactical style at the club, even if the pressure does start to mount on their new manager.
