Salt seasons Capitals win after Jozi pep-talk: 'Not being arrogant, but we expected to win'

Self-confessed biltong lover and Pretoria Capitals opener Phil Salt said their high standards at the franchise demanded that they win against the Joburg Super Kings.

They did so on Wednesday night and quite convincingly by six wickets, with all-rounder Jimmy Neesham breaking the back of the Super Kings' batting with 3/7.

His spell broke open the game and allowed the Capitals to bowl out their Highveld rivals for 122, a total they chased down in 13 overs to get a bonus point.

Neesham also took a screamer of a catch that helped get rid of Alzarri Joseph.

Salt made 52* off 30 with six fours and one six as the Capitals initially weathered Faf du Plessis's fusillade of boundaries before working their way through the rest of the batting.

They still lost four wickets in the chase, but they were never truly in danger. Salt said they needed to make up for not getting out of the bus mentally in Johannesburg.

"I'm not being arrogant, but we expected to win tonight," Salt said.

"We turned up on Tuesday and did ourselves an injustice with the way we performed, but we know how good we are and we know how deep we can go into this competition.

"We were disappointed with how we played in Johannesburg. To be honest, it felt like we didn't even get off the bus.

"We played a poor game of cricket and we were still only a couple of hits away, but we had a good chat in the changing room and we recognised we had this game to bounce back.

"We did exactly that and the boys were clinical."
