SA's Ockie Strydom almost a no-show, but triumphs at Singapore Classic instead

South African golfer Ockie Strydom set a course-record final round to win the Singapore Classic by one stroke on Sunday.

Strydom carded a sublime nine-under par 63 to seal his second DP World Tour title at Laguna National Golf Resort Club.

The 38-year-old started the final round four strokes behind overnight leaders Alejandro Del Rey of Spain and South Korea's Wang Jeung-hun and went on to post a bogey-free round to win.

Strydom won his maiden DP World Tour title last year at the Alfred Dunhill Championship at Leopard Creek.

"I don't know if there are any emotions at the moment. I was thinking after Ras Al Khaimah to go home and practice because the swing's not there," he said.

"I spoke to my coach, who flew my assistant coach in, we worked hard to get the swing back to where it was. I'm still speechless about how it happened this week."

The win saw Strydom break into the top 150 of the Official World Golf Rankings where he sits at a career-best 149.

Strydom pocketed a cool €317 075.84 (R6.8 million) for his win and climbed to fourth on the DP World Tour's Race to Dubai rankings.

"I know everyone thinks they can win. It all depends on how your mind is doing," admitted Strydom.
