SA rookie Darryn Binder gives big brother Brad a run in a very wet Indonesian MotoGP
Rookie rider Darryn Binder gave big brother Brad a proper showing in only the second race of the season, and of his premium class career.
In rain-hit weather, the Indonesian MotoGP took off with a delayed start. SA rider Darryn Binder from the WithU Yamaha RNF MotoGP Team started the race in 23rd place on the grid, with KTM rider and older brother Brad Binder in fourth. Within the last ten laps of the shortened 20-lap race, Darryn started to close in on his brother. He eventually passed Binder and climbed his way up to 8th place while Brad dropped back to 12th.

Darryn was racing no holds bar and gave his all in the wet, showing no fear as he raced incredibly well. With the last lap to go, something happened, and the brothers swapped places seeing Brad go up to 8th and Darryn dropping down to 10th but raking in his first points nonetheless.Brad Binder is still currently in second place in the Riders Championship with Darryn up to third place with six points in the Independent Rider Championship.
Marc Marquez had a horrific crash during warm-up and was ruled out of the race due to a concussion. He had later tweeted that he was fine.
Brad's teammate on the Tech3Racing KTM, Miguel Oliveria, won the race.
A race report will follow shortly...
