Knowing your baggage allowance - and sticking to it - means you can avoid any extra charges when you check in at the airport and helps to make your travel experience as stress-free as possible. Most airlines allow you to bring one cabin bag on board for free, but if you’re going on a longer holiday or need more space then you might have to pay extra for a checked-in bag to go in the hold.

Depending on where you’re flying too, airlines have a range of options available so you can select the one which works best for you. Always check with your airline before you travel so you know exactly what you’re allowed.

Below we’ve listed the baggage allowances for Ryanair, Tui, easyJet, Jet2 and British Airways. Criteria can vary depending on the route you’re on and whether you’ve booked a package holiday or flights only.

All passengers are permitted to bring one small personal bag on board, which must fit under the seat in front of you (40cm x 20cm x 25cm). Non-priority customers can add the option of a 10kg checked-in bag (such as a wheelie suitcase), which costs between £12.99 and £35.99 depending on route and date, if purchased in advance.
