Russia-Ukraine war LIVE updates as Moscow threatens to cut off Europe's gas supplies

Russia is again promising a new ceasefire for Ukraine citizens to escape while threatening to cut gas off gas supplies to Europe.

Moscow announced new humanitarian corridors on Monday and says the routes will open up this morning (March 8), although most will take Ukrainians to Russia or Belarus.

It follows previous failed attempts at humanitarian corridors in recent days, while the Ministry of Defence (MoD) has this morning warned that Russia is deliberately targeting humanitarian corridors.

In a statement, an MoD spokesperson said: "Ukrainian resistance against a Russian offensive towards Kyiv endures around the nearby towns of Hostomel, Bucha, Vorzel and Irpin.

"Russia continues to directly target evacuation corridors, resulting in the death of several civilians whilst trying to evacuate Irpin.

"Due to heavy fighting in the town, it has reportedly been without heat, water or electricity for several days."

It comes as Russia is threatening to cut gas supplies to the West if a boycott is imposed against Russian oil, which Ukraine called for yesterday.

The European Union gets around 40% of its gas from Russia, although Britain imports much less from the country.

The MoD is also warning of a 'notable intensification' of Russian accusations that Ukraine is developing nuclear or biological weapons.

A spokesperson added: "These narratives are long standing but are currently likely being amplified as part of a retrospective justification for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine."
