Russia-Ukraine LIVE updates as Putin 'risks Europe' by shelling nuclear power plant causing massive fire

World leaders moved to condemn Vladimir Putin after Russian shelling on Europe's largest nuclear power plant overnight sparked a huge blaze.

Radiation levels are reportedly stable at the Zaporizhzhia facility and the fire has now been extinguished.

But Boris Johnson said Putin's 'reckless actions could now directly threaten the safety of all Europe' - and said he would be seeking an urgent UN Security Council meeting.

According to reports, Ukraine officials said there were no casualties at the plant.

It's believed Russian shelling didn't damage reactor sites there, but a training centre based at the plant.

The power plant's main reactor is under renovation, according to a Zaporizhzhia spokesperson, but still contains nuclear fuel.

Mr Johnson spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky after the news broke early this morning.

A Downing Street spokeswoman called the situation 'gravely concerning', adding: "Both leaders agreed that Russia must immediately cease its attack on the power station and allow unfettered access for emergency services to the plant.

"The Prime Minister said the reckless actions of President Putin could now directly threaten the safety of all of Europe. He said the UK would do everything it could to ensure the situation did not deteriorate further.

"The Prime Minister said he would be seeking an emergency UN Security Council meeting in the coming hours, and that the UK would raise this issue immediately with Russia and close partners.

"Both leaders agreed a ceasefire was crucial."

The White House, meanwhile, said US President Joe Biden also spoke with President Zelensky, condemned the attack and called for a ceasefire.
