Russell Martin sends key transfer message to Swansea City players

Swansea City manager Russell Martin has challenged those who currently aren’t in his plans for next season to change his mind between now and the end of the 2021/22 campaign, sending this message via Wales Online.

The Swans are currently undergoing a transition phase under their current boss following the departure of predecessor Steve Cooper in the summer, opting to change their style of play and with that, plenty of players both arriving at and departing the Swansea.com Stadium since the summer.

That rebuild is set to continue in the summer if Martin keeps his job throughout the remainder of this campaign and beyond – and his chances of retaining his current role will be boosted if they can capitalise on their games in hand over others around them.

It hasn’t exactly been a smooth season though, especially from the point of view of many Swansea fans who saw the second-tier side secure consecutive play-off finishes under current Nottingham Forest boss Cooper.

Some will be pleased to see the return of passing football though and will understand why this season has been tough with big changes being made to both the management and playing staff since Cooper’s reign.

Revealing to Wales Online that he already has a rough idea of who will and won’t be involved for the South Wales outfit next term, Martin also sent a message to those who may be in the latter category at this stage.

He said: “With a transfer window six [away], or four months or whatever it is, players are always playing for their futures.

“Whether they’re trying to progress or try to salvage something, a contract at their club or trying to get a move.
