Nonetheless, that hasn't stopped speculation swirling with some media outlets claiming the club had compiled a three-man shortlist, with Gareth Southgate, Andoni Iraola and Oliver Glasner on that list.
Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler has also been linked with a move to Old Trafford, as has former Real Madrid icon Zinedine Zidane.

Gareth Southgate would reject an approach from Manchester United if Ruben Amorim is sacked, reports our sister title the Daily Star.
Southgate was one of the leading contenders to become United boss back in March 2024, when club chiefs were considering the future of Erik ten Hag.
But Southgate involvement as England manager at the time proved a major stumbling block.
United were keen to talk to Southgate, but he was determined to remain focused on leading his Three Lions into the Euros that summer.
Southgate has not returned to football since stepping down from his England job. He has focused on speaking engagements, motivational work and has also secured a job hosting a show on the BBC.
