Ruben Amorim 'learns Man United January transfer plans' as new Alphonso Davies claim made

Incoming Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim is reportedly set to have a limited budget to strengthen the squad in January.

Former United boss Erik ten Hag was backed in the summer with a £200million spend, as he signed five players - Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui and Manuel Ugarte. The Guardian reports there is 'only modest finance' to spend in the new year.

However, it's said that while the manager will not have to sell to buy, profitability and sustainability rules mean the books will need to be balanced via sales in order to spend lavishly. United reached a breakthrough in negotiations with the Portuguese giants on Wednesday and the Manchester Evening News understands United have agreed a fee to appoint Amorim.

The club are now working on a deal to bring his Sporting first-team coaches to Old Trafford. Carlos Fernandes, 29, and Adelio Candido, 28, followed Amorim from Braga to Sporting in 2020 and they have been crucial in his success at the Estadio Jose Alvalade.

However, a report by Portuguese newspaper Record states Sporting's president Frederico Varandas has imposed further conditions in order for United to complete a deal for Amorim. A clause in Amorim's contract is claimed to state that Sporting have 30 days to part ways with their coach from the moment United pay his release clause.

This would see Amorim remain in charge for Sporting's next four games against Estrela da Amadora (Friday), Manchester City (November 5) and Braga (November 10) - arriving at Old Trafford
