Ruben Amorim just did something Sir Alex Ferguson wouldn't at Man United - and it was dangerous

Former Manchester United assistant Rene Meulensteen has raised his concerns over Ruben Amorim's damning comments about the current crop.

The new head coach was left incensed after they were beaten 3-1 by Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday, leaving them in the bottom half of the Premier League table. Amorim dubbed his squad "maybe the worst in the club's history" after picking up a tenth defeat of the league campaign - a seventh for the Portuguese tactician during his 15 matches in charge.

Meulensteen, who was assistant to Sir Alex Ferguson during a successful period in the club's history, believes it could be potentially dangerous to criticise so early in his United career.

"It doesn't help if you are a manager who has just come in... How long has he been in a job, two months?

"It's been a long two months, but it’s really dangerous to say that," he said while speaking on Footy Accumulators' No Tippy Tappy Football podcast.

"You have to understand that, whatever comes to you, whatever you're going to say about it, it has a reaction and the media are very well prepared because they want headlines and they want controversy.

"I think Sir Alex Ferguson was a master in communicating because everything he said he thought through, he knew if he said this then that would be the reaction.

"I don't think he hasn't done that. He's young, he speaks in his second language and he doesn't know the size of the task that he's got ahead of him. It's an easy catch for the media. The thing is, this will come back, because when you say these things once it gets repeated.

"If it would have been a manager with a bigger aura and a bigger background - let's say a Pep Guardiola - and eight months into the job he says this is the worst Man United
