Ruben Amorim 'eyes' first Manchester United signing after 'curious' Premier League transfer claim

Ruben Amorim appears to have identified his first signing as Manchester United head coach. The Portuguese tactician left Sporting CP to replace Erik ten Hag in the hot seat, penning a two-and-a-half-year contract at Old Trafford.

United have shown great promise under Amorim, who's won four of his first eight games across all competition, with one of which being the Manchester derby. However, while the Red Devils may be heading in the right direction, the 39-year-old seems eager to bolster his squad in the January transfer window.

Speaking to reporters at his first press conference last month, Amorim insisted that he must have the last say on any additions and departures. He said: "Everybody has to work together and for that we have to improve the process of recruitment, the data, the profile of players we want.

"But I have to have a strong position on that because I am the coach. I know how to play, so I think it's all together but the final word should be the manager. Not just because it's your right but your responsibility.

"Because, in the end, the result is to me, so I think it's all together to improve the process of recruitment. I have a great responsibility when we choose players because this is something that should be done this way. I'm the manager, the head coach, so I have to choose the players."

Dan Ashworth has since left his role as sporting director after just five months – and Amorim has wasted no time identifying his first target. According to Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, United have joined the race to sign Ederson from Atalanta.
