Roy Makaay talks up 'amazing' Rangers atmosphere as coach raves about fan impact

Coach Roy Makaay says he'd love to have experienced the Ibrox cauldron as a player.

But he's making up for it now as one of Gio van Bronckhorst's right hand men and he's thanked the Rangers fans for their "amazing" support.

Makaay arrived as one of Van Bronckhorst 's coaching team in November and has helped smooth the transition into a new era.

He saw it all during his storied playing career that saw him win trophies and bang in the goals for Bayern Munich, Feyenoord and Deportivo La Coruna among others.

But he insists he confesses he seen anything quite like a packed out Ibrox when it's bouncing.

Makaay told Rangers TV : "I've played in some quite nice stadiums with a great atmosphere.

"But every home game at Ibrox - I mean, unfortunately I've never played on the pitch, but now I'm sitting on the side of the pitch and the atmosphere is really amazing."

He went on as he called on the vocal Ibrox support to spur the team on for a big second half of the season.

Gers currently sit one point ahead of Celtic ahead of Wednesday's derby while they also have one of the biggest ties in their recent history on the horizon as they are set to face Borussia Dortmund in the Europa League.

He added: "If you see also the way the fans support us in the away games, that's what players like and what they need sometimes - especially in difficult games, the supporters can help you get through difficult moments.

"It's really great to see how the Rangers fans follow us through the whole country and also when we play in the Europa League."
