Roy Keane's surprise Manchester United admission as Erik ten Hag questions grow

Roy Keane has insisted he does not want to criticise Manchester United too much after defeat to Manchester City but admitted questions will be being asked of Erik ten Hag.

United stunned the Etihad Stadium in the first half as they went into the interval ahead thanks to Marcus Rashford's screamer. However, the Blues stepped it up a gear in the second 45 minutes.

Phil Foden equalised ten minutes after the restart with a fierce strike which flew past Andre Onana before adding his second with ten minutes remaining after neat link-up play. In stoppage time, Sofyan Amrabat was easily dispossessed as United played out from the back allowing Erling Haaland to seal the bragging rights with a cool finish.

Previously, Keane has not been shy of criticising United after a defeat, especially in the Manchester derby. But on this occasion, the former Reds captain was more considered with his analysis of the result.

"I kind of don’t want to be too hard on United today because I thought Man City were brilliant," he explained on Sky Sports. "Man City showed why they were champions.

"That is 11 league losses for United. What City do is they find out all their shortcomings and when you are out on that pitch there is no hiding place. It is like a boxer when they are in the boxing ring, they just wore and wore them down.

"United were hanging on there, they had to replace Jonny [Evans] but the stats at the end of the game show you how strong and dominant this Man City team were. Haaland and [Kevin] De Bruyne weren’t at their very best but then you have Foden stepping up.
