Roy Keane's six-word endorsement of Thomas Tuchel shows why Manchester United and England were both interested in his services.

The Irishman has been known to hold high standards, so his past comments reflect a firm belief in Tuchel's capabilities. The German will become only the third foreign Three Lions boss when he takes charge in the New Year, arriving as a Champions League winner from his time at Chelsea - a triumph clinched just six months into his reign.

Tuchel went on to win the UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup the following season, securing a third-placed finish. It wasn't without its issues, with £97million signing Romelu Lukaku's struggles in front of goal and the abrupt end to Roman Abramovich's ownership presenting tough questions for him.

But Keane was impressed not only with his management style, but also with how he handled those hiccups. After the end of the season, the Red Devils legend argued "he is a top-quality manager".

Keane told Sky Bet: "There has obviously been loads of uncertainty over the club the last few months, that has been sorted out now obviously with the new ownership coming in.

"I'm pretty sure again he [Tuchel] will be able to bring some players in. He is a top-quality manager, he has dealt with a lot of issues over the last few months. Ultimately it was a disappointing end to the season for them."
