Roy Keane's funny reaction to being asked about Liverpool's iconic 'This is Anfield' sign

Roy Keane fought many a battle with Manchester United against Liverpool during his legendary playing career in the Premier League.

While the United icon would take on all comers with his combative and ferocious brand of football, it wouldn’t be presumptuous to say that clashes with Liverpool would have had an extra level of needle.

The Old Trafford faithful have fond memories of slugging it out with Liverpool under the floodlights in the 1990s and early 2000s, picking up plenty of impressive results along the way.

And although Keane must look back on those heady days with a great deal of pride, we feel pretty certain that he doesn’t harbour the same level of sentimentality surrounding Anfield as many of Liverpool’s former adversaries.

At least, that’s the impression we got when Keane returned to Liverpool’s footballing cathedral on Wednesday night, dishing out his analysis on the Reds’ FA Cup clash with Norwich City for ITV Sport.

It might not have been the most high-profile game to grace Anfield this season, but the topic of the legendary stadium’s iconic features and traditions nevertheless came up in conversation with Ian Wright.

That’s because the Arsenal hero was asked whether or not he ever touched the timeless ‘This Is Anfield’ sign, which was housed within a much narrower version of the Anfield tunnel during his playing career.

And perhaps surprisingly when you consider that Wright only ever played at Anfield as a visiting player, the 58-year-old was guilty as charged when it came to ticking the ritual off his bucket list.

Wright did clarify that he never touched the sign as the players left the tunnel to go out and play, but the sheer admittance that he tapped ‘This Is Anfield’ was enough to draw a classic
