Roy Hodgson sends warning to Manchester United after Carabao Cup win over Crystal Palace

Roy Hodgson expects his Crystal Palace side to give "a better account" of themselves when they return to Old Trafford for Saturday's Premier League clash with Manchester United.

Palace were comfortably beaten 3-0 by United in the third round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday evening, with goals from Alejandro Garnacho, Casemiro and Anthony Martial deciding the result. Erik ten Hag's side were dominant from start to finish but had little to contend with from the away side.

Both sides made plenty of changes for the midweek clash but it was United who took control, dominating possession while Palace sat deep and attempted to absorb pressure. It was a serene night for the Reds' defence who didn't put a foot wrong, and Hodgson is hoping to provide more threat on Saturday.

“We played against a good side and got a footballing lesson during parts of the game so we aren't very happy about that despite the mitigating circumstances you mentioned,” Hodgson told Sky Sports. “We could have probably given a better account of ourselves, especially in the first half. I thought the second half was marginally better.

“The fact is, we have to regroup, get ourselves back together and come back up again on Saturday. The personnel might be slightly different but it will still be an equally difficult game for us because I'm pretty certain we won't see a worse Man United than we did today and they have players they can bring in that will make them stronger.

“We have to accept that today, our hopes and wishes were too strong for us to be able to bring some reality to it. Then we have to accept that we are out of the Carabao Cup and
