Roy Hodgson pulls off peach of an assist for Joao Pedro in Watford training

Roy Hodgson didn’t enjoy the greatest of careers as a footballer.

Hodgson, a defender, was on the books at Crystal Palace in his youth but never made an appearance for the first-team.

He then spent the remainder of his playing days in non-league, featuring for the likes of Tonbridge, Gravesend & Northfleet and Carshalton Athletic.

The Englishman worked as a teacher while also playing football.

It’s been just under 50 years since Hodgson hung up his boots and retired from playing the sport.

Hodgson went on to have a highly successful managerial career and, now 74, is currently manager at Watford.

Despite being in his mid-70s and never playing at the highest level, Hodgson has gone viral after producing a peach of an assist in Watford training.

In a video posted by Watford’s official Twitter account, Hodgson tells Joao Pedro to make a run.

The 74-year-old then picks the Brazilian out with a defence splitting pass with his left-foot.

Pedro then did Hodgson’s ball justice as he found the net. View Hodgson’s assist below…

That is very impressive from Hodgson. He’s now 74 but still possesses a great deal of football ability.

Watford’s video has gone viral, attracting over 2k retweets at the time of writing. View some of the reaction below…

Hodgson’s Watford are back in action when they take on Leeds United on Saturday afternoon.
