Rory McIlroy within striking distance at Arnold Palmer Invitational

Rory McIlroy is within striking distance heading into the final round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

The co Down man got around in 68 overnight - his low round of the tournament so far - to move to six under par, three off leader Kurt Kitayama.

The 30-year-old Californian got around in 72 after a double bogey on the fourth set him off on the back foot. He dropped another shot on nine, but came home in three under to get back to the score he started the day on.

Kitayama leads by one from Norway's Viktor Hovland and American Scottie Scheffler.

McIlroy played some very steady golf, with birdies on 4, 6, 10 and 16 to give himself a shout on Sunday.

Padraig Harrington endured a frustrating end to his round. After battling to get to two under for his round - three under overall - he double bogeyed the last, meaning he had to settle for a round of 72.

It was a day to forget for Seamus Power and Shane Lowry, who hit rounds of 76 and 80 respectively to finish on six over par, and in a tie for second last place.
