Ronaldo returns to Man United squad, Varane out until after World Cup

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has confirmed Cristiano Ronaldo's return to the squad, and revealed Raphael Varane won’t feature before the World Cup.

The Red Devils take on Sheriff Tiraspol in the Europa League on Thursday and Ronaldo, sat out Saturday’s 1-1 league draw at Chelsea as punishment for leaving last Wednesday’s match against Tottenham early and refusing to come on as a substitute, is in line to feature.

"Yes, Cristiano will be in the squad tomorrow," manager Ten Hag said.

"I think we said everything and answered all the questions. He was out for one game and now he is back."

Centre-half Varane is now in a race to be fit for France for next month’s World Cup in Qatar.

The 29-year-old was visibly upset as he left the field at Stamford Bridge and won’t be seen in a United jersey until after the tournament.

"Rapha Varane isn’t in the squad, so he will be out certainly until the World Cup," Ten Hag said. "He will not play in this block for Man United."
