Roman Abramovich crucial Lukaku scouting mission is not Chelsea's only Club World Cup dilemma

Chelsea are two wins away from capturing the last infinity stone in Roman Abramovich's gauntlet of glory since taking over at Stamford Bridge in 2003.

The FIFA Club World Cup would round out 19 years of glittering success that is the envy of most in world football.

The Russian owner could be in attendance to watch his team face Al Hilal in the Mohammed Bin Zayed Stadium on Wednesday evening, and the focus will undoubtedly turn to his record-breaking signing of last year, Romelu Lukaku.

Lukaku is under increased scrutiny after his interview with Sky Italia and failing to find the back of the net since the 8th of January.

As per Matt Law from The Telegraph, Abramovich backed Chelsea's head coach over his record signing.

Tracing back to the aftermath of that interview, Tuchel came out looking stronger, but his striker has failed to repay the faith shown in him since he's been reintegrated into the lineup.

After another unconvincing performance against Plymouth, the Belgian desperately needs to show signs he is not destined to be another one of Chelsea's growing list of striker flops.

But with Abramovich watching on, Lukaku is not the only dilemma to confront.

Whatever happens in the Club World Cup, when Chelsea return to domestic action against Crystal Palace on the 19th, the over £300m attacking cast still needs to click into gear.

Chelsea's place in the top four also is far from settled, something which appeared a certainty in the Autumn.

Cup competitions are usually where Chelsea's best performances arise and help mask more longer-lasting league failings that have yet to be addressed.

Abramovich approaches a vital summer where difficult questions have to be answered, and there is an expectation of a squad overhaul.
