Roman Abramovich Braced For Chelsea Takeover Bids With Three Parties Interested In Buying The Premier League Club

Roman Abramovich is set to receive offers for Chelsea this week amid reports he could be considering selling the Premier League club.

Abramovich has owned Chelsea since 2003 and has bankrolled the most successful period in the club's history, which has included five Premier League titles and two Champions League trophies.

Chelsea have previously insisted the club is not for sale but there is belief the mood could be changing due to the current political climate.

The move came after Labour MP Chris Bryant called for the Russian billionaire to be sanctioned by the British government.

Bryant revealed that a leaked Home Office document from 2019 had named Abramovich as a 'person of interest' to the government, amid reports of his alleged close links with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Abramovich has denied having strong links with Putin and the Kremlin.

The foundation's trustees have not yet agreed to take over the club and are said to want more information about whether the move would be compatible with UK charity law.

Abramovich has previously turned down an offer of £2.2bn for Chelsea, while the club also reportedly owes him a debt of £1.51bn.

Huge offers are now being prepared by the interested parties, although these may change or be completely withdrawn if Abramovich is sanctioned by the British government.

Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel was reluctant to answer questions about the club’s ownership on Tuesday, as he prepared his side to face Luton Town in the FA Cup.
