'Rochdale's favourite nightclub' could be forced to close tomorrow as police warn of 'serious violent incidents'

A popular nightclub in the heart of Rochdale town centre could face closure, with the possibility of losing its alcohol licence tomorrow.

Ko-Ko Lounge, which describes itself on social media as 'Rochdale's favourite nightclub', faces a hearing to review whether it should keep its licence to sell booze tomorrow morning (Thursday).

It follows alleged incidents of ‘serious violence and disorder’. Greater Manchester Police requested the review to take place after alleging a ‘number of serious violent incidents’ took place as well as under 18’s being allowed in and being served alcohol.

The force has suggested that the council should revoke the Packer Street venue’s licence in light of recent incidents - meaning they would no longer be able to serve punters booze.

The licensing sub-committee at Rochdale Borough Council will meet at Number One Riverside on October 3 to hear representations from the police as well as the nightclub owners themselves.

The hearing was supposed to take place on September 9, but was postponed until October for undisclosed reasons.

Council licensing papers read: “The review application was made under the licensing objective the Prevention of Crime and Disorder and seeks the revocation of the Premises Licence.

“In summary, the review is being sought on the grounds that there have been a number of incidents of serious violence and disorder at the licensed premises; allegations of persons under the age of 18 being permitted on the premises and consuming alcohol and other associated concerns.”

The police believe removing the Packer Street site’s licence would help prevent crime and disorder in the town centre
