Robin Koch breaks silence on injury vs Manchester United as Leeds release statement

Robin Koch has revealed he is feeling 'much better' following the gruesome injury he suffered against Manchester United on Sunday.

The fierce derby between United and Yorkshire rivals Leeds United was just 12 minutes old when Koch came off worst in a collision with Scott McTominay.

The German suffered a strong blow to the head which also caused a blood-gushing cut above his eye and required over three minutes of treatment before he returned to action wrapped in a bandage and in a fresh shirt.

However, the clash left its mark on Koch who played on for 15 more minutes before he went down of his own accord for more treatment and was then substituted just short of the half an hour mark.

Leeds have come in for staunch criticism for the fact that Koch was allowed to play on after potentially suffering a concussion, but the club have insisted they followed the current protocols that are in place as they joined calls for concussion substitutions to be introduced in the Premier League.

"Leeds United can confirm that following a clash of heads, Robin Koch passed all of the on-field concussion screening tests that are currently part of the Premier League protocols," the club said in a statement.

"The player was told if he developed any symptoms he should sit down on the field of play and would be substituted immediately, which is what Robin did in the 29th minute of the game.

"The medical staff at Leeds United have always been in favour of temporary substitutions for head injuries, as it would allow the staff more time to assess an injury and allow a period for symptoms to potentially develop.

"Robin will follow the concussion protocols before returning to play."
