Robertson blow for Scots ahead of Ireland clash

Andy Robertson looks highly likely to miss Scotland's UEFA Nations League clash with the Republic of Ireland on Saturday week after sustaining a knee injury.

The Liverpool defender picked up the problem late on in last week's 4-1 Champions League defeat to Napoli.

"Robbo now is not 100%. [He felt something] very late, 93rd or whatever minute - actually he felt it the next day only," said Reds manager Jurgen Klopp on Monday.

"But yeah, he is out for at least, I would say, after the international break."

Robertson played in June's match between the countries at the Aviva Stadium, which Ireland impressively won 3-0. The Scots are second in the League B table, two points better off than Ireland having played a game less.

On Thursday Stephen Kenny will name his Ireland squad for the Scotland showdown and the home game against Armenia the following Tuesday.

Klopp, speaking to the press for the first time since the weekend's league games were cancelled due to the death of Queen Elizabeth II, also clarified the position with midfielder Naby Keita, who was called up by Guinea despite still being injured.

"No, I don't expect him to go on international duty," added the boss, who also said fellow midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was in a similar position prognosis-wise.

"The expected return date is somewhere in October, that's why we had to make the decision.

"With Ox it is the same and that's why the two boys are not in the Champions League squad because of their expected return.

"It can differ a little bit, but we had to make the decision now or last week and that's why we made the decision."
