Robby McCrorie Rangers transfer exit option narrows as 'interested' club handed major keeper boost

St Mirren boss Stephen Robinson has expressed his delight over Trevor Carson getting the all clear and hopes to have the experienced goalkeeper available for the opening game of the season.

The Buddies goalie was a huge concern was a potential serious injury but after checks, he has been given the green light to make his return to action. Robby McCrorie at Rangers was one linked with a move to Paisley had the results been negative. But with the 34-year-old looking increasingly likely to return for the start of the campaign, it could remove that transfer option for the Ibrox No3.

St Johnstone are still in the hunt for a replacement for long-serving goalkeeper Zander Clark with the Scotland squad player also namechecked as a possibility for the McDiarmid Park side. Callum Davidson is continuing to add to his squad as he bids to avoid having to face the relegation play-offs again this coming season after clinging onto a place in the top flight following a two-legged win over Inverness Caley Thistle.

Manchester United have also been linked with a sensational swoop for Rangers third-choice McCrorie, but a move to St Mirren now looks unlikely given the positive news on ex-Motherwell star Carson after Wednesday's shock 2-0 Premier Sports Cup loss to League One side Airdrie.

Robinson told Renfrewshire Live Sport: "The only good news I've had all day is Trevor Carson getting the all clear. Hopefully he'll be available for the first league game.

"Unfortunately we couldn't carry that good news into the game."
