Robbie Keane's Maccabi Tel Aviv out of Europa Conference League after squandering three-goal lead against Olympiacos
A stunning comeback from Olympiacos saw them battle back from a 4-1 first-leg deficit to defeat Robbie Keane's Maccabi Tel Aviv 7-5 on aggregate in Thursday's Europa Conference League second leg tie.
The game, which was played in Serbia because of the ongoing conflict in Israel looked like a formality for Keane's side, as they eyed a spot in the quarter-final.
However, the Greek side had other ideas and goals from Daniel Podence and Kostas Fortounis had narrowed the deficit by the 36th minute. Deep into first-half injury time Ayoub El Kaabi netted to bring the aggreagate score level.
A 57th-minute penalty converted by Eran Zahavi restored Maccabi's advantage. Eight minutes later El Kaabi added a second and the sides were level again.
It finished 4-1 at the end of normal time. Olympiacos were the stronger in extra-time and goals from Stevan Jovetic and Youssef El Arabi saw them run out comfortable winners in the end.
