Robbie Fowler's best goal? Liverpool legend's stunner vs Brann in 1997

Robbie Fowler is one of the greatest strikers in Liverpool’s history.

The lethal striker broke into Liverpool’s first-team in 1993 at the age of just 17.

He went on to enjoy eight successful years at the club, before departing in 2001. Fowler then returned for a brief spell from 2006-2007.

In total, Fowler scored 183 times for the club, including numerous screamers.

Arguably his best ever goal for Liverpool came against Brann in 1997.

On March 6, 1997, Liverpool travelled to Norway for their UEFA European Cup Winners Cup quarter-final first leg.

Fowler was at the peak of his powers at the time. He was in the starting lineup for his side.

And he produced a piece of individual brilliance as he scored Liverpool’s only goal in a 1-1 draw.

The ball was headed to Fowler at some pace in Brann’s half. Fowler had a defender marking him very closely.

Fowler realised he could exploit the space behind the defender and produced the most outrageous flick over his head to go one 1 vs 1 with the goalkeeper.

The English striker then made no mistake as he lashed the ball into the net. It was a truly brilliant goal and you can watch it below…

It’s 23 years since Liverpool drew in Brann, and Robbie Fowler produced one of the most x-rated first touches in the history of European football.Filth. Wash your hands immediately after watching.pic.twitter.com/prbT9EMl1q

That may be one of the greatest touches we’ve ever seen. To have the audacity to even try it, let alone pull it off, is astounding.

The defender was completely bamboozled. By the time he realised where the ball was, Fowler was just about to strike the ball at goal.
