Rivers United’s return to the continent thrills Egbe

Rivers United

Stadium construction expert, Ebi Egbe, has commended Rivers United FC of Port Harcourt for qualifying for the continent despite not retaining the 2022/23 Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) title through the championship play-off.

Ebi, who is Chief Executive Officer of Monimichelle Group, also commended Rivers State Commissioner of Sports, Chris Green, who, he noted, personally motivated the team in a special way.

He pointed out that Rivers United fought till the very last minute in the game against Enyimba and played well in the match, which ended in a draw and unfortunately pushed them to the third position on the Super Six log.

“Rivers United had a good outing in Lagos and deserve a lot of plaudits. I’m happy they are back in the continent and Chris Green, in particular, did a yeoman’s job in motivating the team. He is a football administrator per excellence,” Egbe said.

Egbe said he would want to see Rivers United prosecute their continental campaign at their Port Harcourt base rather than play away from home as they did this term.

“It is time for Rivers United to play at home. All that CAF demands is the right playing surface which I am confident Rivers State can fix before the continental campaign gets underway,” he said.

Egbe expressed joy that Rivers United and other teams at the Super Six enjoyed playing at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena Onikan, which was constructed by Monimichelle.

He noted that Enyimba and Remo Stars, who qualified for the CAF Champions League, have Hybrid synthetic pitches constructed by Monimichelle Sports.
