Rio Ferdinand sends Amad message to Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag

Former centre-back Rio Ferdinand admits that he would like to see Amad given an opportunity to impress at Manchester United next season.

The Ivorian, who joined the Reds from Atalanta in January 2021, has spent this term on loan at Championship side Sunderland. He made 42 appearances for the Black Cats, scoring 14 goals and registering four assists, as they narrowly missed out on a second successive promotion.

He joined the Black Cats on a season-long loan deal last August after an underwhelming short-term loan stint at Rangers in the second half of the 2021/22 campaign. A full season of earning regular football in a competitive environment has been the making of the 20-year-old attacker and he is expected to be included in Erik ten Hag's squad at Old Trafford next season.

And for former Reds ace Ferdinand, Amad deserves the chance to try and make a name for himself at Old Trafford under Ten Hag, as well as getting the opportunity to compete with Antony for a spot on the right-wing.

Ferdinand, speaking on the Vibe with Five podcast, said: "He is an interesting one. He has got talent there is no doubting that. You can see the talent he has got but you can see he wasn't robust enough at the time.

"But that loan at Sunderland, he left that place a hero, an absolute god. He plays on the right-hand side too, a problem position for United.

"I know Antony has come in and done well but he is someone you can look at and say can he add something a bit different? I would like to see him given another opportunity.

"There is a bit of unfinished business and I don't know if he's not good enough, not right for Man United or he is [good enough] because I haven't seen
