Rio Ferdinand names David de Gea and excludes Alisson when listing world's 3 best goalkeepers

David de Gea has been in brilliant form for Manchester United.

The Spaniard was once regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the world but then through a tough spell where he made a number of mistakes.

He has come back strong, though, and has been a bright spark in what has been an underwhelming campaign for the Red Devils.

De Gea has only kept five clean sheets this campaign but that’s to no fault of his own.

He’s made crucial saves time and time again and it’s fair to say they’d be a lot worse off without him.

He’s been so impressive that Rio Ferdinand has named the Spaniard as one of the best goalkeepers in the world once again.

Ferdinand gave three names when discussing the world’s best goalkeepers. Watch him discuss below at 42:56.

He said: “If I was picking a goalkeeper right now in the world, I think my top three ‘keepers would be – and maybe people say you’re biased because of the Premier League – but it would be Mendy, Ederson and, on form right now, De Gea.

“De Gea is going to get Man United Player of the Year. He’s put in a lot of work to get that. Not that Man United Player of the Year means a lot but how many goalkeepers have you seen win Player of the Year at their football clubs? It doesn’t happen. You have to be performing to be talked about. He went through a rocky period but he’s come out of that with his character.

“Mendy stands out for me, especially in this last year, he’s been impeccable.”

Ferdinand’s list of three players excludes some massive names.

Manuel Neuer has been one of the world’s best goalkeepers for the past 15 years, while Jan Oblak has been sensational for Atletico Madrid for the last decade.
