Rio Ferdinand makes Man City vs Liverpool title prediction

Rio Ferdinand has backed Manchester City to win their third straight title, stating that only Liverpool will be able to challenge them again this campaign.

City pipped Jurgen Klopp's side by a point to win their sixth Premier League crown last season, producing a final day comeback against Aston Villa to seal a famous triumph. A number of players have left and arrived since then, but Pep Guardiola's men are favourites to lift the trophy once again.

Liverpool finished 18 points ahead of third-placed Chelsea last season, and many pundits are predicting another two-horse race for the trophy. Ferdinand is one of these, believing that City will ultimately come out on top in the end.

Speaking to FootballJOE, he said: “Liverpool have got a chance. It’s them two (Liverpool and City). No-one else gets close to them two again I don’t think. I still think there are six, eight points between second and third.

“If someone like Spurs make that gap up — it’s a huge, huge, huge gap to make up — they’ll be doing something to make that. Liverpool and City, I think will be a two-horse race. I think City win it.”
