Rio Ferdinand explains what Anthony Gordon must do to force move to Chelsea from Everton

Rio Ferdinand has described Anthony Gordon as the ‘crown jewels’ and has explained what the Everton star must do to force a move to Chelsea.

Chelsea news, exclusives and analysis

Thomas Tuchel’s side are prepared to pay around £60m for the 21-year-old who is reportedly open to joining Chelsea as he wants to play in the Champions League.

Gordon became a regular in Frank Lampard’s team last term and has made 64 appearances in total across all competitions, scoring just five goals.

He has scored once across Everton’s first four Premier League games this term, netting in the 1-1 draw with Brentford on Saturday.

Everton have already lost one of their best forwards this summer, with Tottenham signing Richarlison, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been out injured so far this season.

This has left Gordon leading the line, when he is generally has been seen as a winger in his young career so far.

When quizzed if £60m was too much money for Chelsea to spend on Gordon, Ferdinand said on YouTube: ‘Is he worth that? Probably not right now.

‘Could he eventually be worth £60m? Potentially, he has the chance to do that. This kid is the crown jewels at Everton at the moment.

‘They don’t want to see him go because of what that will do for the morale of the football club and the fans in the stadium.

‘It’s difficult but if he wants to go, he’s got to go in and show the balls to go to the manager and the chairman and say ‘I want to leave’ and see how they deal with that.’

Former defender Nedum Onuoha, meanwhile, has questioned Chelsea’s move for Gordon and feels the move does not make sense.

‘At the moment, I couldn’t put him into this Chelsea team and see where he fits,’ he told ESPN FC.
