Ricky Hatton funeral LIVE: Liam Gallagher, Claire Sweeney and Wayne Rooney among mourners saying farewell to boxing legend

Thousands have lined the streets today to say a final farewell to Mancunian boxing icon Ricky Hatton following his tragic death.

The funeral of the local legend, who died last month aged 46, is taking place today, with a number of stars among the guests at a memorial service to be held at Manchester Cathedral at midday.

The cortège made a two-hour journey from Tameside to Manchester city centre, spanning more than 15 miles, and passing several important spots in Ricky's life and career.

It stopped off at some of Ricky's favourite pubs and former boxing gyms including the gym he founded, now called Energie Fitness Hyde Ricky Hatton.

The famous faces attending the funeral Liam Gallagher, Claire Sweeney, Tyson Fury, Wayne and Coleen Rooney and Freddie Flintoff.

Following the Manchester Cathedral service, the cortège will leave at around 1.15pm with Ricky making one final trip to the Etihad Stadium.

Carol Hatton, Ricky's mum, had a statment read on her behalf during the service.

She said:

"'The Hitman’ was adored by his army of fans –- the People’s Champion, and he would say that’s how he would want to be remembered.

"Long before this accolade he was our little champion from the day he was born."
