Report: Tottenham lining up deadline day bid to sign ‘outstanding’ £15m man as Conte blown away

According to The Northern Echo, Tottenham Hotspur are firmly in the mix to sign Championship starlet Djed Spence as they battle north London rivals Arsenal.

As per reports, Spence is a player on whom Spurs have kept tabs in recent weeks, with Sky Sports first breaking news of their interest alongside other Premier League clubs.

The 21-year-old, currently shining on loan at Nottingham Forest from Middlesbrough, could solve Antonio Conte’s right-wing-back conundrum, but it won’t happen this season.

Fabio Paratici would need to send him back on loan to the City Ground for the remainder of 2021/22 as the player has already represented two clubs in the current campaign, but that hasn’t stopped Tottenham from weighing up a last-gasp move today.

The Northern Echo claimed that both Spurs and their arch-rivals are ‘lining up offers’ to sign the defender before 11pm, with Middlesbrough now braced for bids.

This comes as Conte is personally ‘known to have been impressed’ by Spence’s performances in the Championship this season.

The marauding right-back is arguably one of the most promising defenders in English football and we urge Tottenham to win the race for his signature.

Called a ‘massive player‘ for Forest by Sky Sports pundit Jobi McAnuff, his parent club’s manager Chris Wilder holds him in the same esteem, branding Spence ‘outstanding‘ for his form this season.

Able to help with solving Tottenham’s homegrown quota, this potential move is certainly one which should be considered before the deadline tonight, even if he could cost up to £15m.

In other news: Spurs now prepared to pay £49.8m release clause for 54-cap star, find out more here.
