Reims confirm Hugo Ekitike transfer stance following Manchester United speculation

Reims have confirmed they will consider offers for Manchester United linked forward Hugo Ekitike this summer.

Ekitike has a burgeoning reputation as one of Europe's most exciting young centre-forwards. The striker was subject to transfer interest from Newcastle in the January transfer window, but Reims rejected the Magpies' bid for the player.

The 19-year-old has contributed 10 goals and four assists in 24 appearances this season and he's been linked with a move to Old Trafford. United are in the market for a new centre-forward this summer with the club short of options in that position, given Edinso Cavani's impending departure and Mason Greenwood's suspension.

Ekitike is considered a prospect for the future and Reims have now admitted they don't expect him to remain at the club. Reims are 13th in Ligue 1 and club president Jean-Pierre Caillot has confirmed Ekitike is 'probably going to leave'.

“In Hugo’s case, he would waste time staying with us,” Caillot toldEurope1. “We refused an offer of €35million [£29million from Newcastle] this winter, which is a lot of money for a club like ours.

“That money will be used to grow and improve the club. Hugo will be allowed to go, and he’s probably going to leave. There wasn’t a big club that didn’t inquire for him.”

The summer transfer window for Premier League clubs will open on 10 June.
