Reality check for Marcus Rashford as clear demand sent over Manchester United future

The future of Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford has been thrown into doubt following Sunday's 4-1 hammering to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

With Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani both unavailable for the Reds, Rashford was expected to lead the line. However, interim manager Ralf Rangnick named him on the substitutes bench, favouring instead Bruno Fernandes in a 'false nine' role.

The England international stepped off the bench in the second half, shortly past the hour mark, to replace Paul Pogba, with United 2-1 down at the time. However, he failed to make any sort of impact.

As reported by the Manchester Evening News on Monday, Rashford is considering his future at Old Trafford after being left out of the starting line-up against City. He is out of contract at the end of next season, though the club holds the option of an additional year.

In a season that started on the treatment table, Rashford has seemingly struggled throughout and his United career is stalling.

With that in mind, the Manchester Evening News recently conducted two surveys to gather the thoughts of United's supporters on if Rangnick should hand Rashford more game time and if he should leave the club this coming summer. A total of 1,500 responses were cast and the answer to one question proved to be a lot more one-sided than the other.

Of those who answered if Rangnick should give Rashford more regular chances to impress, 61.4 per cent said that he should not. That left a little over a third hoping to see more of the academy graduate.
