Real Madrid fans who left the Bernabeu shortly before the team’s dramatic comeback against Manchester City ended up seriously regretting their decisions.

City appeared to have sealed their place in the 2021-22 Champions League final following Riyad Mahrez’s 73rd-minute strike, which put the Premier League side 5-3 up on aggregate.

Some Madrid fans left the Bernabeu early, presuming it was game over, before rushing back towards the stadium after hearing their fellow supporters go wild.

A dramatic late brace from Rodrygo completed one of the most dramatic turnarounds in Champions League history.

Real Madrid looked dead and buried but you can never, ever rule out the most successful team in the competition’s history.

Rodrygo’s goals sent the semi-final tie to extra-time before Karim Benzema – who else? – scored the winning goal from the penalty spot to set up a mouth-watering Champions League final against Liverpool.

Footage posted from outside the Bernabeu appeared to show some of the supporters who’d left early rushing back towards the turnstiles as euphoric fans inside the stadium went crazy. The club’s famous goal music can also be heard in the background.
