Real Madrid fans hit out at Gerard Pique as Barcelona win El Clasico

Real Madrid fans have hit back at Gerard Pique after the Barcelona defender sent out an ominous warning to his team's rivals following their 4-0 El Clasico victory on Sunday.

A brace from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and goals from Ronald Araujo and Ferran Torres saw Barcelona dismantle Los Blancos at the Bernabeu.

Shortly after the full time whistle, Pique delivered a clear message as he posted on Twitter: 'We are back.'

His tweet did not go down with well some Real Madrid supporters as one retorted: 'You are back playing on Thursdays,' making reference to Barcelona currently playing in the Europa League rather than the Champions League.

Another fan followed up on this theme by writing: 'You're back from nothing at all and go train instead of tweeting. You have the Europa waiting for you.'

Meanwhile, a further response pointed out that Barcelona are still some way adrift of Carlo Ancelotti's men in the league table.

'Hey Pique?? How does it feel to still be 12 points behind the first,' they replied, followed by three laughing emojis.

Pique also received a blunt response from one fan, who simply put: 'Back to 3rd place?'

It seems that not many fans agreed with Pique's statement, but he did gain support from someone - his wife, Shakira.

'Gerard won't let me say these things publicly. But only he with his heroism can play like this, overcoming any injury or pain and always giving his best. It's not because he's my husband, but he's the best center back in the world,' the pop star wrote on Twitter on Sunday night.

Barcelona have now won eight of their 10 league matches in 2022 to move above Atletico Madrid on goal difference.

They are just three points behind second-placed Sevilla, and have a game in hand.
