Real Madrid 0-4 Barcelona: Gerard Pique's three-word tweet after El Clasico win

Barcelona enjoyed their finest night of the 2021/22 season so far on Sunday.

Xavi Hernandez’s side rocked up to the home of their fiercest rivals Real Madrid and produced an incredible performance.

The Blaugrana earned victory by a 4-0 scoreline, goals from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (x2), Ronald Araujo and Ferran Torres enough for all three points.

Barcelona were totally dominant on the night and Carlo Ancelotti’s side were simply outclassed at the Bernabeu.

Aubameyang, Torres and Ousmane Dembele were lethal in attack, while Araujo pocketed the dangerous Vinicius Junior.

Barcelona players were understandably jumping for joy when the referee blew the full-time whistle and then long-serving defender Gerard Pique decided to take things up a notch.

A matter of minutes after the victory was official, the Spaniard jumped on social media and posted a message saying “we are back” from his official Twitter account.

Unsurprisingly, the tweet has attracted an insane number of likes and retweets.

We are back.

He may be right, the Barcelona of old may very well be back after a difficult few years.

The loss of Lionel Messi last summer was a huge blow for the team and many believed they wouldn’t recover for quite some time.

Under Ronald Koeman, that looked like it would be the case, but since Xavi has taken charge of the club, things have improved at a rapid pace.

The Barcelona manager was keen to avoid going as strong as Pique did with regards to the ‘we are back’ narrative, though.

In his post-match interview, Xavi said: “Are we back? It’s a day to enjoy. We came back from a bad run against them and we played a spectacular game.”

But he also rubbed salt in Real Madrid’s wounds at the end by adding: “We expected a tougher game.”
