Razgatlioglu set for summer MotoGP test

WorldSBK Champion Toprak Razgatlioglu is all but confirmed to test the Monster Energy YZR-M1 ahead of a potential move in 2023.

Yamaha MotoGP Team Director Massimo Meregalli announced from the Sepang test that schedules are being aligned for the Pata Yamaha rider to join Britain’s Cal Crutchlow during his mid-season testing duties, with dates in both June and August highlighted as possible opportunities.

The young Turk claimed the World Superbike title in impressive style last season, holding off six-time champion Jonathan Rea in the closing clashes, securing success for Yamaha across seven championships including BSB, WorldSBK, WorldSSP, MotoAmerica and MotoGP.

“Last year at the end of the season, at the end of basically the Jerez test we plan a test for him,” Meregalli confirmed from Malaysia.

“Then Indonesia organised the last Superbike race and he had to fly over there but this year, based on Cal’s calendar we have to find probably one day that could suit his calendar and our calendar.

“It will be for sure interesting and also he really deserve to have this opportunity because what he did last year, for me has been amazing. I’m also, and not only me, curious to see him on an M1.

“We already have a schedule ready and there are two possibility, one is in August and the other one may be in June, but I’m not sure because we already have changed this possibility. As soon as we will be ready we will then decide together when this would be the right moment.”
