Ray Dempsey quits Limerick hotseat after just five games
Ray Dempsey has stepped down from his position as manager of the Limerick senior football team after just five games in charge.
Mayoman Dempsey is believed to have made his decision to leave the role on Thursday evening, following a meeting of the county's players.
In a statement, the Limerick county board announced that Mark Fitzgerald will replace Dempsey as manager of the county's senior footballers until the end of the season.
The statement read: "Limerick GAA wish to announce that the Limerick Senior Football management have stepped down with immediate effect.
"Limerick GAA would like to thank them for their commitment to the job and wish them well in their future.
"Mark Fitzgerald will take up the position of manager until the end of the season."
Dempsey had but has endured a difficult start to life in charge of the team. The Treaty County opened their Allianz Football League campaign with a heavy defeat to Derry as they scored just 0-04 in a twelve point defeat.
Further reversals against Dublin, Louth and a 6-18 to 0-12 loss to Cork followed, although they did manage to claim their first point of the campaign against Meath last time out as the sides played out a draw.
Dempsey took charge of Limerick last October, joining the county on a two-year deal as he replaced Billy Lee, who had led the Treaty County for six years.
