Ravens add RB Dalvin Cook to roster, waive Melvin Gordon - ESPN

OWINGS MILLS, Md. — The Baltimore Ravens switched up their backfield heading into Saturday's divisional playoff game against the Houston Texans, signing Dalvin Cook to the active roster and waiving Melvin Gordon.

Cook, 28, was added to the 53-man roster after spending two weeks on Baltimore's practice squad, his agent told ESPN's Adam Schefter. The four-time Pro Bowl running back had spent most of the season with the New York Jets before being waived ahead of the regular-season finale.

The Ravens (13-3), the AFC's No. 1 seed, will now have Cook, Gus Edwards and Justice Hill as part of their running back rotation. Before a career-low 214 yards rushing with the Jets, Cook averaged 111 scrimmage yards per game from 2019 to 2022, which ranked second only to the Tennessee Titans' Derrick Henry (126).

Ravens coach John Harbaugh said last week that he viewed Cook as «a potentially very valuable weapon.»

Gordon, 30, will likely get signed to the Ravens' practice squad, a source told ESPN. He had been limited to a reserve role since signing with the Ravens before the start of training camp in July and finished with 26 carries for 81 yards and one touchdown.

The move comes after Gordon struggled in the season finale two weeks ago, when he fumbled in a 17-10 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. It was the 19th fumble of his career, the most by a non-quarterback since 2015.

The 15th pick of the 2015 draft by the San Diego Chargers, Gordon has rushed for 6,543 yards and 56 touchdowns in nine seasons with the Chargers, Denver Broncos and Ravens.
